The Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services ("CMS") announced that it is extending the date for electronic reporting under the Medicare Secondary Payer rules for all Non-Group Health Plans from April 1, 2010 to January 1, 2011.
On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, the Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services ("CMS") announced that it is extending the date for electronic reporting under the Medicare Secondary Payer rules for all Non-Group Health Plans ("NGHP's") from April 1, 2010 to January 1, 2011. NGHP's include liability insurers and self-insureds, no-fault, and workers' comp.
CMS's also announced that next week it will issue an entirely new User Manual for NGHP's as well as some new "Alerts" which will 1) address certain reporting policy questions which have been raised and 2) provide Responsible Reporting Entities ("RRE's") with guidance on how they are to comply with their reporting obligations under the Medicare Secondary Payment Act during the time between now and January 1, 2011.
We will provide more information after the new CMS Manual and Alerts are issued. In the meantime, please feel free to call if you would like to discuss this further or have any questions. More information about secondary payer enforcement can be found in our August 31, 2009, alert. If you would like to review the actual CMS announcement, you can find it at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/MandatoryInsRep/04_Whats_New.asp#TopOfPage.
